Book IT!

I'm sittin' here glancing at the books that I'm supposed to read for class. But I'm also reminiscing about the good ol' days of BOOK IT! Does anyone feel me on this one? What, what glorious days those were.... I mean just look at what Book It accomplished - As a young boy my passion of PIZZA, was perfectly coupled with a not so dominant passion: to read.

Things that have greatly impacted my life:
1. Jesus Christ
2. Book It! (Reading Goosebumps meant the world to me)
3. Dunkaroos (This snack puts the Oreo to shame)
4. Mondo's (I know you remember this drink!)
5. Nickelodeon (Salute Your Shorts, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Wild & Crazy Kids, etc
6. Home Alone (This is still an amazing film today!)
7. Ninja Turtles

Ya, the boys life is good... Sorry, but I cannot help but think about a list that solid!
But let me take not of #2 on the list for a moment... I have good news, although not as alive and kickin' as it was---Book It! is still going. Check it out
Whoever decided to combine eating pizza with books was acting out in pure genius. Ahh, if only I could shake their hand. I have no doubt that my life would not be the same without Book It! Let's get real here, what kid wants to stop doing #'s 3 through 7 on the above list? I can remember the school book fairs = running up to the stand filled with Goosebumps books! Wow, it was as if it was candy (Disguised as a book). Goosebumps were the real deal! R. L. Stine - you are the MAN! And then to think, that with each book read - a hot, delicious pepperoni personal pan pizza was waiting for me at the 'Hut... Oh, take me back now.

Unfortunately, those times are over. Now my books are serious. and the prize, = getting to write papers on the books I do read. mmmnnn fun.
Hey, President Lee Todd, if you're out there: "You wanna know what's keeping UK from being a Top 20 University?" nudge, nod, wink,... BOOK IT! come on man, bring it back...

ok, now that the lil' boy in me has written his post for the day, I must be getting back to my studies... I hope you can think back to some of this stuff and savor with me.

-- Katrina still Strong --

This past week the PMBC college dept. cruised down to New Orleans for the 2nd annual Katrina Spring Break Clean Up trip. (I say '2nd annual' trip not to joke, but in relation to the fact that teams could go down to the area for countless other trips in the future and still not get the all of the work done that needs to be completed.)
If you are wondering what the area looks like now 18 months after the hurricane, the simple answer is: the same. Ya, the water level is down, but the town is still drowning... Houses are empty, filth and trash cover the neighborhood streets, and it has the eerie look of a 3rd world country in many places. ----but wait, I almost forgot to mention the things that HAVE changed in the area! Although they are few, you just can't miss 'em!
Now you can see:
1. The many people who have spent their FEMA check on a brand new car w/rims and a bangin' system. (despite their homes still is complete ruin. I guess they're sleepin' in their cars.)

2. Hundreds of Mexicans waiting outside of Lowe's and Home Depot stores hopeful + waiting for a contractor to pick them up for some work. (props to the latinos -most peeps are lazy and would never want to work. If only I knew some spanish --> I would honestly tell 'em thanks.)

3. God is at work and moving in the lives of many. (this is because the church is one of the few areas that are thriving with life.)

While that list of changes is small, #3 has saturated the area, So I'm pumped...

Every significant thing on Earth will always point to God's glory ------I'm starting to see more and more that Katrina is coming full circle into this light of His glory.

Tired...but still Learning

Tired? Ya, join the club. The above picture is what I've felt like for a couple of months now. The Main cause of this is my Chem II class. As my first year of college is coming to a close, life just keeps spinnin' faster and faster and sleep is becoming ever so sweet. Getting 8 hours one night would be nice. No, more than just nice: it would be like eating a steak dinner and someone else picking up the check. Ya, that kind of nice!
But how can I complain - there is work to be done, people to see, babies to kiss, and hands to shake - who has time to slow down?
However, I did manage to slow things down a lil' today - and I realized some interesting things.. I noticed things like:

1. The dorm starts to feel smaller and smaller with each passing week.
2. A college kid will do almost anything for a good meal.
3. The 'freshman 15' may normally refers to weight, but I also think it could represent freshman test/quiz averages.
4. Always wear sandals or proper footwear in the residence hall bathrooms. (no exceptions)
5. Procrastination is a drug. It feels good at first, even down right amazing at the start! Then it all comes crashing down, it will shatter you... Lesson: Don't do drugs.
6. Thinking about writing a paper vs. writing a paper are a different as night & day. huh?- somehow I kept thinking they were one in the same... no way!
7. Looking at a book vs. READING a book = the difference in an average college student compared to a great one.
8. I have more time now (than I ever will in my lifetime)in college to have a quiet time with God --but why is it so hard to find the time?
**In fact, my time in college feels like a broken coke machine. You know the kind where everything looks cool on the outside, so you walk up and put in your $$ and nothing happens... ya, and since 'time is money' I can definitely see some similarities. I guess I'm starting to realize that only a few things in life are worth investing your time - b/c not everything will give you a good return.
9. Kids who sit in the front couple rows of class usually set themselves up for success.
------ Remember #2 on this list: we'll I'm gonna go do that.

--sorry, I could think up enough to keep going past 9, but my creative blogger juices can only flow for so long. Besides, I'm only a freshman. I still have a lot to learn.

more than lyrics

Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee
Take my moments and my days
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love
Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee

Take my voice and let me sing always, only, for my King
Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from Thee
Take my silver and my gold, not a mite would I withhold
Take my intellect and use every power as You choose

Here am I
All of me
Take my life
It's all for Thee

Take my will and make it Thine, it shall be no longer mine
Take my heart, it is Thine own, it shall be Thy royal throne
Take my love, my Lord, I pour at your feet its treasure store
Take myself and I will be ever, only, all for Thee

Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee

One thing I love about this worship song is that
each phrase is amazing just to pray... Recently it has been such a blessing to
stop,
and look at some of my favorite worship songs and pray the words
back to God. I'm not saying that we don't already do this while we
sing.
--But sometimes you can hear something totally different from God
through the words without any music. Yes, I love instruments, music, and sweet
melodies just like any other human on the planet! Still, sometimes it is unique
to strip things bare and see words clearly with all of their weight, it is refreshing.

just a thought...
