Dreamin'

I have had the same recurring dream for the past two nights.... It is a good dream, but it always ends in disaster. To make a long story short: I find myself playing basketball... I get tired/hungry... so I go to McDonald's... then I order some food and a delicious Hi-C Orange drink... but I always drive off and realize that I received water instead...

that dream has been a nightmare for me. -Does anyone remember the joy of being a child and receiving an Orange drink at McDonald's? Mmmm I can taste it now- amazing.

the real Chuck Norris (of the Bible)...

We have all listened to someone tell a Chuck Norris joke, right?
I mean the list goes on and on. Well, you may not know-- but the recent obsession with Chuck Norris jokes among today's youth actually stems from a biblical character! yes, no lie (it is NOT based upon Jon Canler or Travis Claypool as much as we think it should be...) Although the fad of telling Norris jokes is slowly dying out -I still had to post on this icon before he is forgotten by the next generation of youth.
I'm sure you know which biblical character I'm talking about= his name is Samson.
Samson's story can be found in the book of Judges... go read it!
After you read it I think you will know what I'm talking about. For example:

"As they approached the vineyards of Timnah, suddenly a young lion came roaring toward him. The spirit of the Lord came upon him in power so that he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as he might have torn a young goat." (Judges 14: 5-6) ---that makes Steve Irwin's fame look pretty darn weak.

"Then the spirit of the Lord came upon him in power. He went down to Ashkelton, struck down thirty of their men..." (Judges 14:19)
wait, it gets better:
"As he approached Lehi, the Philistines came toward him shouting. The spirit of the Lord came upon him in power. The ropes on his arms became like charred flax, and the bindings dropped from his hands. Finding a fresh jawbone of a donkey, he grabbed it and struck down a thousand men." (Judges 15:14-15) if only Frodo could have had Samson rather than Sam on his quest to destroy the ring....

now, look how He gets if he has to get up in the middle of the night:
"But Samson lay there only until the middle of the night. Then he got up and took hold of the doors of the city gate, together with the two posts, and tore them loose, bar and all. He lifted them to his shoulders and carried them to the top of the hill..." (Judges 16:3)

So there you have it. Scripture speaks for itself, that's for sure.

Animal Smackdown

(while I know this post will be of a much different tone than the last one, please forgive me... I just had to post on this when I noticed the ideas for it elsewhere online...)

Here's the scoop: Theory has it that ANY animal in the world can kill another animal if the numbers are correctly favoring a particular animal. For example:

How many Mallard Ducks would it take to kill a polar bear?
my guess: 59

How many squirrels would it take to kill a bengal tiger?
my guess: 83

How many fire ants would it take to kill a giraffe?
probably: 7,341

How many beavers would it take to kill a panda bear?
my guess: 14

How many rabbits would it take to kill a rhino?
my guess: 101

How many pigeons would it take to kill a sea-otter?
my guess: 24

--also these 1 vs. 1 fights would be a good match-up too...

A silver-back gorilla vs. a black bear

A gecko vs. a tree frog

A pack of monkeys vs. a group of armadillos

(ya, I know- this is a totally random post.)

Lovin' like we should...

Love is patient, Love is kind,
It does not envy, it does not boast,
It is not proud, It is not rude,
It is not self-seeking,
It is not easily angered,
It keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil,
but rejoices with the truth.

Love always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.

Love bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.

L o v e N e v e r F a i l s.

1 Corinthians 13 : 4 - 8

I don't have to think very hard before I start to see how many times I mess up staying true to these verses. From these verses I can see that I usually live my life in the opposite of Love. >No it is not hate - but rather selfishness. Look above. In all of the phrases to describe Love, none of them paint a picture of self-centeredness. They all seem to decrease the amount of 'self' we have. (-Do I live my life like that? Not often enough, that's for sure.)
I must say that so often I live my life with only little splashes love. I mean, ya, I do some "nice" things, or even some things that seem super caring on the outside - but what are my motives... Is it just that I'm trying to impress someone else or being nice toward someone for some other selfish benefit? Is it only b/c others are around to see how I act? -Unfortunately it occurs more often than I'm willing to admit.
This leads me to one of the things I love most about God (but that also sometimes scares me) : that God can see the motives of my heart! He knows what we are thinking every second of the day- he knows whether we are living with motives that are pure or selfish. He does not see the world in the same way we do, and for that I'm so grateful...

--So my prayer for today (and many, many more days) is to genuinely love.

today in COM

Today in COM 101 we talked about slang words... How they define a generation. How they are part of your identity.

While thinking about all the slang I use, I would have to say that the word I like/use most would probably have to be: "Solid."

Solid by definition (Webster's) = 1 Filled with matter throughout; not hollow. 2 firm, strong, dependable. 3 substantial, sound, and reliable, sturdy or vigorous. 4 serious, not superficial 5 complete, genuine.... I could go on... but hey we all know (that's just how Webster's feels)

I love to use the word to describe many things. However, mostly I use "That's Solid!" when I'm pumped up or highly approve of something. Like the sculpture pictured at the top of this post... its solid!

anyway, I say all this -to say:
What is the slang word you use most? B/c when it comes down to it, the words you use most usually say a lot about who you are...

ok, ok, I realize this post seems kinda lame...and Not Solid... but hey, maybe this picture will be "solid" and make the post worthwhile:

Question of the Week

Will everyone be using BlueTooth technology in the next 5 years...?
(will we all look like secret service agents?)

What do you think?
(or will this happen?)

Excite Nite

Our mind is trained to react in particular ways to certain words based on our understanding and experiences of the words or phrase we see or hear. I know this fact to be true, b/c as of last night - there has been a change in my mind with two particular words spoken and/or read together: Kentucky Gymnastics

When I hear 'Kentucky Gymnastics' or read it on a poster, my mind can muster up nothing but pure respect for the ladies that comprise the UK gymnastics team. In fact, I easily feel more than just respect. I feel excited, I feel pumped up, I feel alive, and I'm usually in awe and some times my jaw even drops. ---Last night I went to my first ever Kentucky gymnastics meet. 'Excite Night' as its named was nothing short of amazing. The women who make up the team have redefined the word athlete in my mind. They take their sport seriously and it shows. If you have any chance at all to check out the team this year - don't hesitate! Just Go, you will not be let down. Check out their schedule and let's cheer 'em on!

(All I can say is: GO CATS! and that I'll be pumped up to go see them in action the rest of the year.)

Sunday, January 07, 2007

After thinking about the start of this new year and all the unexpected joys that will come in 2007 - One thing that came to my mind was 'the blog'. But I realized that it is more personal to me than just 'the blog', it is me, and it has a name: Most Things Break. Well, today is a glorious day b/c not only does it have a name- now it has a face (technically it is not a face, but rather an official seal). So before I jump the gun, allow me to first give credit where credit is due: The idea for the seal came from none other than Chad Eldridge. If you go to his blog and look at an old post of his (September 4, 2006 to be exact) you will notice the idea for creating such a seal.

So now- "Let it be known, to all who may hear (I mean read) that today,
in the year of our Lord January 7, 2007
the official seal for Most Things Break
is set forth for the world to see."

Passion '07

Check out 268generation.com if you want to know more.

The Passion '07 conference in Atlanta was amazing. The presence of God was overwhelming during the worship and speaking. He saturated every minute of the conference!

In looking for a way to describe how I feel about Passion: It would be easy to just mention the line up of the faces who appeared at the conference. Names like: Giglio, Piper, Crowder, Charlie Hall, Chris Tomlin, Beth Moore, Matt Redman are a few. Still, one verse comes to my mind when I want to accurately describe the event. I hope you check this verse out and realize why it is the only way I can even start describe the conference...

Ephesians 3:20-21
Passion was just a glimpse
